The exterior of the gilded cabin was designed in CAD to be assembled like a traditional log cabin. The structure was fabricated from kiln-dried pine from Tennessee, using stainless steel mesh and fiberglass resin to mimic the mud "chinking" in between the layers. A lot of R&D went into the final gold finish, experimenting with gold chrome and gold leaf before creating a custom blend of fine gold pigment and urethane clearcoat.
The interior of the cabin was created as a separate box within the cabin. Each wall was its own puzzle, covered in a mosaic of gold painted cotton, corn, bullets and iphones and more. Production molds were produced to create the thousands of objects necessary to cover the walls. Part of the permanent collection at NOMA.
